• The U.S. Health Secretary is expected to announce a possible link between autism and prenatal exposure to paracetamol (acetaminophen/Tylenol), a widely used over-the-counter pain and fever medication.

Paracetamol Use in Pregnancy

• Recommended by global medical bodies as first-line treatment for pain and fever during pregnancy.
• Untreated maternal fever/pain can lead to serious fetal risks:
• Heart & neural tube defects
• Preterm birth, miscarriage
• Maternal complications
• Guidelines: Use judiciously, at lowest effective dose and for shortest duration, under medical supervision.

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
